Veteran's Day Ceremony: The City of Elgin, in partnership with American Legion Post 57, will honor our nation's veterans during the annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Sunday, November 11 at Veterans Memorial Park. The ceremony will feature opening remarks from Chief Ana Lalley, remarks from Mayor David Kaptain, speakers from local veterans organizations as well as several musical selections.  https://www.facebook.com/events/1866580406760768/ 


Pumpkin Composting: The City of Elgin will once again offer residents an opportunity to compost their pumpkins with a collection event on Saturday, November 3, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the parking lot located on the southwest corner of Grove Avenue and Kimball Street in Elgin. Small Business Saturday: If you spend $100 at a local business, roughly $68 stays in the local economy as opposed to only $43 at a non-local business. By shopping or dining at your favorite local places not only on Small Business Saturday but throughout the year, you are making a positive impact in your community. Elgin Gives, Giving Tuesday: ELGIN GIVES is a collaborative effort of community leaders in the greater Elgin area to bring the power of philanthropy’s biggest day, #GivingTuesday, home to Elgin. Giving Tuesday is a 24-hour fundraising event on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving that connects individuals with the causes that matter to them, and empowers donors to give to the local nonprofits that tackle our communities’ most critical issues. https://www.elgingives.org 


Pet Health and Safety Event: The fall Pet Health and Safety Event is set for Saturday, November 3 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the lower level of the Hemmens Cultural Center, located at 45 Symphony Way in Elgin. The event provides low cost vaccinations and microchipping to pets of Elgin citizens. Dogs and cats are welcome to this event. No appointments are necessary as services are offered on a first come, first serve basis. https://www.facebook.com/events/483713038812721/ 


Save the Date: Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony: All are invited to the City of Elgin’s annual tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center Plaza on Saturday, December 1, where Mayor Kaptain, members of City Council and Santa will turn on the holiday tree lights. The ceremony takes place at the plaza behind City Hall in the Robert Gilliam Municipal Complex. Before the event, check out the Elgin Police Department's Winter Open House from 2-4 p.m. https://www.facebook.com/events/276612086323702/
